Schoenoplectus (Scirpus) zebrinus (Zebra Rush) is a very popular pond plant for good reason. It looks good over a long season, though can be slow to start, and has strong horizontal banding of white on green leaves. It’s strong and easy but not invasive. Plant in multiples to get the best effect and use plenty of fertiliser to get good stripes. Because it’s tall and fragile, plants will be cut back for posting, new leaves will soon emerge.

These plants are always fragile and usually tall too, so potted ones will be expensive due to extra packaging cost. Please be aware that they still may need to be trimmed back. If you buy early in the season you will usually find they are discounted because they are then shorter and cheaper to send.
