Typha angustifolia (Narrow leaved reedmace) is the slightly shorter and more slender native reed mace, with dark brown pokers, hardly less invasive than T latifolia. The flowers have two separate parts, the upper male and lower female parts separated by a small gap. All reed mace have sharp roots so it’s wise to protect pond liner by standing the basket on a slate or tile.
