Isolepis cernua (Fibre optic plant)

Isolepis cernua (Fibre optic plant) was previously Scirpus cernuus and is a grass-like sedge with tiny white flowers in profusion at the tips of the leaves.

Isolepis cernua was previously Scirpus cernuus, though most people still use the old name. Fibre optic plant is a grass-like sedge with tiny white flowers in profusion at the tips of the leaves, looking like its namesake. If you keep trimming it back as the flowers fade you will get fresh flowers and foliage time after time. An excellent plant for tiny ponds as any submerged foliage will help with oxygenation and it looks good all season long. To my mind it looks best if not submerged though, in which case it won’t be much use for oxygenation!
