Juncus ensifolius (Sword rush, Flying hedgehogs) is a species whose young flowers forming in the swordlike foliage look like (you guessed it) little flying hedgehogs. It stays green over a long period but is not actually evergreen. It does seed about enthusiastically, which isn’t a problem in liner ponds, but in smaller natural earth ponds you need to keep an eye on it.
